HERMANUS BACKPACKERS… The Building
The building was one of the first guest houses in Hermanus (apparently)… originally built in the 1940’s as a single story building, then purchased as a private residence, then turned into a doctors surgery… with flatlets, then back to a private residence, then back to a guesthouse… ‘Fairfields Mansion’.
Hayley and Braam bought the building in May 1999…. And arrived in Hermanus with Mika, who had just turned one and still in nappies and Kaan, three and a half…. “We were in Hermanus on a weekend away having got rid of the babies onto some willing family member…when we spotted the opportunity and so Hermanus Backpackers was born!”
Due to the age and complexities of the building each room is uniquely interesting with it’s own quirks and qualities. Hayley and Braam have painstakingly decorated and kitted out the Hermanus Backpackers and budge accommodation to suit each rooms individuality, ensuring that guests enjoy a comfy stay.
