TRAVELLER REVIEWS ON TRIPADVISOR

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

This was the best backpackers we stayed at in South Africa.

We stayed in the satellite house around the corner from the regular backpackers. This house is clearly set aside for quiet couples and families and it was just what we needed. The house has three family rooms and two couples rooms, as well as a cottage in the back garden that also sleeps 4 people and has its own kitchen and bath.

We had a family room with an attached bath. The house facilities are excellent with a sitting room complete with satellite tv and free wifi. The kitchen is large with a table that sits 12. There is sufficient crockery and cooking utensils and all the appliances are in excellent working order.

There is a night watchman that comes by several times during the evening, and he even set up and lit the fireplace in the lounge because it was very cold and windy during our visit.

Kitchen staff comes by in the morning to make pap (corn porridge) and toast, juice, coffee, tea and milk is provided in the morning. The house was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, and every member of the staff was smiling, helpful and kind.

Frankly, this backpackers was better than some of the B&Bs that we stayed in. It was a wonderful visit.

WOW!!! So wonderful to know you’re doing things right! And… we’ve taken note of the comments that are not too favorable and making amends on the off season when we have fewer visitors and time to focus on repairs and renovations!

We truly appreciate honest feedback as it ensures that we are able to continuously improve our service quality and standards year on year!

Great surfing places in Hermanus

Sick waves bru...

There are some great places to surf in Hermanus.

The water might be chilly, but there’s surf spots all around Hermanus.

Onrus is a popular spot, lovely beach and cafe too.  or Kammabaai on the other side of town, great waves for the beginners.  So bring your wetsuit, you’ll need it here all year round, otherwise you shall be blue in about 20 minutes – but hey, surfers are tough, it you can’t stand a little chilly water, take up bowls!  Come chat to the staff at Hermanus Backpackers, they’ll know where the waves are and have a storage area for your board.

At the end of the day, exhausted and refreshed, come back to the backpackers and chill with us around the fire pit or in the bar – cool vibes and plan your next days adventure.  It’s not uncommon to share your waves with the occasional dolphin, seal or whale…. and we hardly ever see any sharks, which is a bonus!

COAST to COAST (THE guide for backpacking in South Africa) say:

Hermanus Backpackers just gets better and better, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the live wires Braam and Hayley.

The bright, clean and cheerful Hermanus Backpackers is a lively, spirited place with relaxed vibes. Overlooking the ocean and beautiful Kleinrivier Mountains, it’s close to town and sea and not on the main road. Apart from the incredible facilities, their excellent staff will entertain you with their legendary swimming pool parties and fun and games at the funky bar.

They offer heaps of really fun activities, you can also go whale watching or cruise to an island to see the fabulous seals and penguins. And hey, if the whales that frequent Hermanus aren’t exciting enough, try playing “bait” and cage dive with Great White Sharks!

They provide duvets, linen, off-street parking, lockers, bike hire, laundry, DSTV, cheap Internet and lashings of hot water! Their nightly braais are excellent value at R70. The house is large enough to accommodate both party animals and people needing a little tranquillity, so you’ll always find the right spot to suit your mood.
